Tony Stewart Will Not Race Today
Despite his team's initial announcement that Tony Stewart would race this afternoon in Watkins Glen, Greg Zipadelli (pictured) just announced that Tony Stewart would not race. Zipadelli said the decision was made after Stewart slept on it and NASCAR has allowed the team to substitute another driver in for the car he would have driven.
Zipadelli spoke to reporters at a press conference, however would not speak to the incident last night. He offered condolences but would only address the race at Watkins Glen.
The decision not to race came shortly on the heels of NASCAR's spokesman indicating that there was nothing yet, as far as NASCAR was concerned, that would preclude Stewart from racing. Zipadelli said Stewart felt it was the right thing to do, and his team supported the decision. Regan Smith will race in his place.
