Toronto FC sign G Sean Johnson to extension through 2025

Toronto FC signed veteran goalkeeper Sean Johnson to an extension through the 2025 season.

The deal announced Tuesday includes a club option for 2026 for the former MLS Cup MVP.

Johnson, 35, has posted six clean sheets in 32 MLS matches since joining Toronto in 2023.

"We are happy to announce that Sean has signed an extension with Toronto FC, as he has been an integral part of our evolution both on and off the field," general manager Jason Hernandez said in a release.

"Sean will continue to provide us with the consistency and stability we will need in our group as we continue to push towards reaching our full potential. His leadership has been a fundamental aspect of our team's identity, and we look forward to Sean helping our club achieve its goals in 2024 and beyond."

Johnson was the 2021 MLS Cup MVP with New York City FC and was named an MLS All-Star with the same club in 2022.

He has recorded 96 clean sheets in 387 MLS regular season matches with the Chicago Fire (2010-16), NYCFC (2017-22) and Toronto.
