Trump Supporter Arrested For Vote Fraud Claims Polls Are Rigged
An Iowa woman arrested on charges she voted twice for Donald Trump attempted to explain her behavior by stating that “the polls are rigged,” according to Iowa Public Radio.
Cops booked 55-year-old Terri Rote into the Polk County Jail on Thursday, charging her with felony election misconduct. A Des Moines police report alleges the registered Republican cast two separate early voting ballots this week. Two other suspects are accused of casting mail-in ballots and also voting in person.
Vote fraud is extraordinarily rare, despite Trump’s repeated claims during the campaign; a comprehensive study found 31 fraudulent votes in one billion cast. And when it does happen, basic safeguards identify the fraud fairly quickly, as happened in Iowa. Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald told the Des Moines Register it’s the first time in 12 years he’s seen an instance of vote fraud.
