Tucker DeVries nets 27 as Indiana blasts Marquette

Tucker DeVries had 27 points and Lamar Wilkerson added 23 points as revamped Indiana rolled past Marquette 100-77 in a nonconference game in Chicago on Sunday afternoon.

Indiana (2-0), which has an entirely new roster, took control midway through the first half at the Waterkeeper Alliance Invitational and led 56-38 at the break.

DeVries, a 6-7 redshirt senior and the son of first-year coach Darian DeVries, played for his father at West Virginia last season, and previously at Drake, where he was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.

DeVries, the active NCAA leader in career points scored, hit 9 of 15 shots, including 6 of 9 from three-point range.

Wilkerson, a transfer from Sam Houston State, hit 8 of 19 shots, including 6-10 from deep.

Indiana was 14 of 28 beyond the arc, while Marquette was 4 of 16.

Marquette pulled within 65-55 on a 3-pointer by Zaide Lowery with 13:46 remaining.


DeVries went to the bench with his fourth foul with 13:15 left and Indiana in front 68-55. But the Hoosiers continued to roll. Wilkerson's 3-pointer put the Hoosiers up 78-57 with 10:44 left.

Chase Ross had 19 points and Nigel James Jr. added 16 for Marquette (2-1).

DeVries had 24 points in the first half, hitting 8 of 12 shots, including 5 of 7 from deep, to pace the Hoosiers to an 18-point lead at intermission.

Ross hit a pair of free throws to pull Marquette within 34-30 with less than eight minutes left in the first half, but DeVries hit two free throws and a 3-pointer to cap an 8-0 run that put Indiana up 42-30.

Ben Gold scored on a layup to bring the Golden Eagles within 45-36 with 2:50 left in the half, but Indiana answered with another eight-point run to go up 53-36.

Indiana scored 12 points first-half points off nine turnovers.

Marquette was in the bonus 4 1/2 minutes into the first half, forging an early 10-8 lead on eight free throws.
