The Minnesota Twins claimed right-hander Zak Kent off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.

Kent, who turned 28 on Tuesday, made his major league debut last season and went 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA in 12 relief appearances with the Cleveland Guardians.

The Cardinals claimed Kent off waivers from the Guardians on Feb. 16 but designated him for assignment five days later to make room for infielder Ramon Urias.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Minnesota placed right-hander Pablo Lopez on the 60-day injured list. Lopez, 29, underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday and is out for the season.
