Two Pirates Minor Leaguers Hit For The Cycle In The Same Game
Photos: Twitter Here’s something improbable: two minor league teammates in the Pirates system hit for the cycle Tuesday night, in the same game. Kevin Newman got his in five at-bats, notching a single, a pair of doubles, a triple, and finally, in the eighth inning, a solo dong to left:
Then, three batters later, Jacob Stallings finished off his own cycle, with a triple to right-center:
Stallings is not a fast man! But the ball took a funny carom off the outfield wall, and my man was booking it, and the relay throw was dropped, and history was made. The two men combined to go 9-for-10 from the plate, with six RBI in the Indianapolis Indians’ 12–5 victory. This says this is the second time minor league teammates have hit for cycles in the same game this season, which strikes me as extremely wild and difficult to believe. Not surprisingly, it has never happened in the majors.
