Tyreek Hill Trade Not Happening: Imagine If It Did

The new era of sports is a blessing because athletes have easy access to social media and love to hop in on some good old-fashioned trolling.

After losing Rashee Rice with what’s believed to be a serious knee injury, there’s no hiding the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs need a wide receiver. Look around the league, and the Miami Dolphins could appear to be a team ready to sell some assets as they reel in the AFC East without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Insert Tyreek Hill trade rumors.

On Wednesday, Hill downplayed trade rumors amid Miami’s 1-3 start to the 2024 campaign. 

“I’m just focused on right here, right now,” Hill told reporters. “We got a beautiful team here, and I want to be a part of it.”

But after these comments, Hill took to social media to stir the pot further, dropping a meme that sent social media into a frenzy for a few hours.

Later, he posted just how much he loves to troll us all.

There’s no denying that the Cheetah’s production has dropped greatly ever since losing Tagovailoa to the scary concussion that placed him on injured reserve.

Skylar Thompson was wildly ineffective during his two starts with the Dolphins. With Tyler Huntley at quarterback on Monday Night Football against the Tennessee Titans, Hill caught four passes for just 23 yards. He was emotional on the sideline, and that was caught on camera. It looked to the naked eye like a player that would not mind being traded.

“I wouldn’t refer to it as shouting; that’s just me motivating my teammates,” Hill explained of the viral video.

At this point, you have to take Hill at his word. While plenty of pundits want to see the Chiefs call about a trade, he genuinely does seem to enjoy Miami, despite the lack of production. And for good reason.

He’s making just under $30 million to suit up for the Fins this year. In the great state of Florida, he’s not paying any state income tax on that, either.

It’s fun to dream about what a reunion with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid would look like in Kansas City, especially when they need it the most. The Chiefs are 4-0, but that offense just doesn’t look right, especially with the litany of injuries it’s sustained.

Mahomes and Hill made some sweet, sweet music together. Flashbacks of Hill sprinting into the endzone, throwing up the deuces and immediately performing a backflip replay in the minds of NFL fans everywhere. Acquiring Hill via trade would be like buying a fast pass at an amusement park to their third straight Super Bowl championship.

But for now, it might be time to move on from those memories.

The Dolphins aren’t going to eat a penny of that contract. Head coach Mike McDaniel loves the pairing of a healthy Tagovailoa, who is expected to be back soon, and the speedy Hill. Not to mention, you’d be hard pressed to find a team in the AFC that will willingly help Reid and the Chiefs hoist their third straight Lombardi trophy.
