UConn G Solo Ball has wrist surgery, to redshirt 2026-27
UConn Huskies guard Solo Ball (1) reacts to a made three point basket Monday, April 6, 2026, during the NCAA men's basketball tournament national championship game against the Michigan Wolverines at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. UConn guard Solo Ball requires wrist surgery and will miss the 2026-27 college basketball season, the school announced Monday.
Ball will use a medical redshirt and plans to return for the 2027-28 campaign.
Ball played through a wrist injury for much of this past season, but he still managed to appear in and start 39 of the Huskies' 40 games, averaging 12.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
His 3-point shooting ticked down to 30% on the season, compared to 41.4% the year before. He already sits 10th in UConn program history with 199 career 3-pointers.
"Solo is a true Husky and a champion who would do anything to be out on the court," head coach Dan Hurley said in a statement. "This guy has shown throughout his career what a warrior he is. Solo is going to use the season to get his wrist fully healthy and then come back next year as one of the best guards in America while cementing his legacy as an all-time great at UConn."
As a freshman in 2023-24, Ball contributed to the Huskies' second consecutive national championship team with 3.3 points and 11.5 minutes per game primarily off the bench. In three college seasons, he has put up 10.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game across 113 appearances (84 starts).
UConn (34-6) lost to Michigan in the national title game earlier this month and is retaining freshman wing Braylon Mullins, among others.
