WWE’s Championship Picture Is Getting Crowded Ahead of WrestleMania
WWE fans in Mexico City will be acknowledging the Tribal Chief when he faces the winner of the AAA/WWE tournament on September 13th for the World Heavyweight title. Penta is the favorite to be Reigns' opponent and could beat his brother Rey Fenix in the finals. However, WWE has pinned itself into a corner. It’s time to look at the title scene for each belt and what the future could look like.
The Nigerian Giant’s Date with the Tribal Chief? (World Heavyweight Championship)
At Night of Champions, Oba Femi was crowned King of the Ring after beating Jey Uso. With this win, Femi was guaranteed a title shot at SummerSlam. Instead, he went on a side mission to conquer Brock Lesnar, while Seth Rollins lost to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. Rollins lost in the first round of the KOTR, but was originally planned to win the tourney. Now, the Nigerian Giant’s mission is to reheat Bron Breakker’s career. The time is ticking for WWE to capitalize on, or forget, Femi’s KOTR victory and match with the Tribal Chief. That being said, the prospect of Solo Sikoa sabotaging the Bloodline and then Reigns losing to Femi sounds fascinating.
The Vision is Breakking (Raw Tag Team Titles)
The memes and footage don’t lie. Bron Breakker DOES NOT want to be in the Vision. According to reports, he’s ‘baffled’ with creative’s direction for him. Instead, WWE sees Austin Theory as the breakout star in the faction. The speculation is WWE is waiting for Logan Paul to return from his injury to initiate a split. Akira Tozawa and Otis are the tag team to take the belts from them.
Armageddon is Here (All Raw Women’s Titles)
Let’s kill two birds with one stone. Liv Morgan is the Raw Women’s Champion and had her FIRST title defense at SummerSlam after winning the title at WrestleMania. Now Becky Lynch and Stephanie Vaquer are in the mix for the title. Meanwhile, Raquel Rodriguez is the Women’s IC champ and is feuding with Sol Ruca and Lyra Valkyria. Perhaps Roxanne Perez becomes Miss Money in the Bank and creates real tension within the Judgment Day. Unless they implode or cost each other in a match, expect the females of the Judgment Day to dominate for the foreseeable future.
An Olympic-Worthy Performance (Intercontinental Championship)
Chad Gable needs to hold the IC title for at least a year, but all good things must come to an end. He had arguably the match of the year in WWE against Rey Mysterio, but needs some heels to step up. Ethan Page would be a great match, and so would Bron. Big Cass is most likely to beat Gable for the title before WM 43, and just like Baron Corbin being US champ, nobody asked for it.
Justice for Sami (WWE Championship)
The main event scene on SmackDown is blowing Raw out of the water. Four superstars are jockeying for it, and that doesn’t include the two that fought this past Friday. CM Punk and Kevin Owens had a great match until the ref bump. Owens wondering where the ref was after shoving him out of the ring can be interpreted however you’d like. Zayn costing Owens to lose the title could go somewhere. He embraced the dark side, and attacked Punk and Owens before holding the belt as the broadcast ended. Looks like we’re headed for Owens vs Zayn eventually, but don’t be surprised if they run Punk and Owens back again.
The Grass is Greener on the Other Side
Chelsea Green has thirty days to recover from her injury, and doesn’t have to vacate her title. Green cut the promo of her career two weeks ago, and roasted Gunther while surviving to tell the tale. With Rhea out until the Royal Rumble, let’s all Pledge Allegiance to Chelsea Green. Nia Jax is first in line, and if Tiffany Stratton turns heel, she’d be next. Let’s hope for a swift recovery for Green.
FATALITY (Women’s Tag Team and US Women’s Title)
Fatal Influence are your Women’s Tag Team Champions, and Jacy Jayne is the Women’s US champ. Jayne defeated Tiffany Stratton on SmackDown to win the gold. It’s about time a faction of female superstars took over the women’s division. While it’s speculated the tag team champs are stiff in the ring, they deserve the belts. Lastly, Jayne is the best heel in the WWE women’s division.
The Lone Dud (US title)
Do we need a five-minute match between Baron Corbin and Lil Yachty? Blake Monroe can’t get a match, Guila’s screen time is maxed at five minutes, and Carmelo Hayes is an afterthought. Hey, at least Trick Williams is on the card though.
HAKUNA Matata’s (SmackDown Tag)
Damian Priest likely didn’t know he was winning the tag belts with R-Truth. Unfortunately, WWE kept the belts on them past their expiration date. They put them on the line against the AAA tag champs, the War Raiders, and the Tongan’s. The Tongans won the match, and maybe Haku could help out that division, because it needs plenty of it. Perhaps Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki could spice it up.
Roman Reigns is the champion least likely to lose his title before WrestleMania. Unless WWE swerves us and puts the title on Solo Sikoa or has The Rock return. Everyone else has a target on their back, and with Money in the Bank on the horizon, no one is safe.
