UEFA Didn't Think Through This Twitter Campaign
Tickets went on sale today for next summer’s European soccer championship, and to help promote the sale UEFA is running a Twitter campaign that lets users create a “supporter’s badge.”
Unfortunately for UEFA, as we’ve seen before in these situations, they didn’t account for the fact that people on the internet are trolls. Some people are just making crude jokes:
While others are offering vaguely political commentary:
UEFA is finally deleting some of these tweets, but the lesson remains. Unless you have a perfectly designed filter that can screen out all offensive or embarrassing content—which is impossible—don’t design social media campaigns that involve automatically tweeting out user-generated words.
