Utah drills school-record 19 3-pointers in rout of Alcorn State

Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Twin brothers Gabe and Mason Madsen combined for 11 3-pointers to lead Utah to a 100-59 season-opening victory over visiting Alcorn State on Monday night in Salt Lake City.
Gabe Madsen topped the Utes in scoring with 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a 6-for-10 effort beyond the arc. Mason Madsen, a transfer from Boston College, finished with 15 points and hit 5 of 9 shots from 3-point range.
The Madsens drained 11 of 19 threes as Utah made a school-record 19 from beyond the arc. Keanu Dawes (13 points, six rebounds), Miro Little (seven assists, six points) and Mike Sharavjamts (10 points) each hit a pair of 3-pointers.
Ezra Ausar added 13 points and six rebounds for the Utes.
Keionte Cornelius led Alcorn State with eight points. The Braves, who only shot 36.4 percent from the field, had seven players score at least six points.
Utah shot 56.1 percent overall, including 19 of 38 from 3-point range, and had assists on 29 made 32 field goals. The Utes, however, only hit 17 of 25 free throws.
Gabe Madsen hit four 3-pointers and scored 19 in the first half as Utah seized a 50-31 halftime lead.
Ausar scored the first points for Utah with a dunk. Gabe Madsen followed with two free throws and Little finished a game-opening 7-0 run with a 3-pointer.
Gabe Madsen hit his first trey for a 10-2 lead. The Braves evened the score at 13-13 after an 11-3 spurt, which included a 3-pointer and a layup from Cornelius.
Mason Madsen put the Utes back on top with his first triple at the 12:20 mark.
Alcorn State kept it close for a few more minutes, with Davian Williams' 3-pointer making it 22-19.
The Utes then created separation with three free throws and another trey from Gabe Madsen in a 6-0 run. Sharavjamts gave Utah its first double-digit lead, 31-20, with a 3-pointer.
After closing the first half with his fourth triple, Gabe Madsen capped a 17-2 run to open the second half with another three and pushed Utah's lead to 67-35. Alcorn State went over four minutes without scoring in the stretch.
