VCU Loses In Overtime Thanks To Bonehead Foul
This is crazy. VCU was up five with 30 seconds to play and managed to piss this game away, losing 77-75 in overtime to Stephen F. Austin. With 10 seconds, and a 67-63 lead, VCU missed two free throws. Whatever, right? The game is basically over. Let them take a shot, worst case scenario: they hit a three and you're still up one. Except the worst case scenario is actually fouling a dude while he takes, and makes, a three and then hits the free throw. Which is exactly what Desmond Haymon did with 3.6 seconds left.
Haymon tied the game and sent it to overtime, where they hung on to win by two. Was it ticky-tack? Maybe? But it's a mess even putting the refs in the position to make that decision in the first place. VCU, who just three years ago made an incredible run to the Final Four as No. 11 seed, is now just another victim of the dreaded 12-5 seed upset.
