We Are All Dave McKenna LXXIX
Here's your daily link to Dave McKenna's brilliant "Cranky Redskins Fan's Guide to Dan Snyder," which we'll be posting until [Daniel] Snyder's dumbass libel suit makes like an ant under a very patient child's magnifying glass on a 110-degree day with a cloudless sky.
Today's topic: Danny making money off of other people's money. Here's a blurb of a story posted by the Washington Examiner last evening:
Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is slated to earn at least $1 million from season ticket holders this summer — interest money fans won't get back if the football season is canceled this fall.
One of the most profitable teams in football, the Redskins are among the majority of teams requiring fans to stick to their payment schedules this spring if they want to keep their tickets. And it plans to keep the interest earned on those millions of dollars now pouring in.
"You're trapped," said Doug Winkler, who spends nearly $12,000 per season on Redskins season tickets. "If you don't [pay] they can sell your seats and if there's not going to be football this year, there will be next year and I don't want to risk losing them."
The team wouldn't disclose how many general admission season ticket holders it has vs. premium seat holders, but spokesman Tony Wyllie did not dispute that Snyder could earn more than $1 million in interest.
The customer is only correct if the customer accepts the fact that Danny's Redskins care more about their money than their feelings. So here's a hint, Redskins fans: Find a new sport to spend fan dollars on until Danny gets bored and buys your favorite team in that, too. Then, sneak back to the Skins. The NFL isn't rebuy friendly, so you'll in all likelihood have the team you love back. This advice is brought to you by the Easter spirit.
