We Are All Dave McKenna LXXV

Here's your daily link to Dave McKenna's brilliant "Cranky Redskins Fan's Guide to Dan Snyder," which we'll be posting until [Daniel] Snyder's dumbass libel suit find its way into the wood chipper.

Our special Dave McKenna 75th anniversary feature has been delayed by "unspecified electromagnetic activity." Apologies. We promise to roll it out tomorrow. For now, please enjoy a video of the last Redskins game in RFK stadium. I was there for this one. The fans stormed the field after the game. I remember watching men with switchblades carving out chunks of turf to save for posterity. (Yes, I have a piece in Lucite.)

This game predates the advent of the Daniel Snyder reign of terror by almost three years but marked a significant turning point for the franchise...and not in a good way. The Redskins soon moved into a ghastly new home in distant Maryland and began their transformation from a city team — one that belonged to DC and to which DC, in turn, was essential — to a team adrift in the soulless suburban netherworld. At least that's how it feels to me.
