What Is Wrong With Our Fragile Baseball Players? (MRI Edition)
As anyone who plays fantasy baseball can tell you, injuries are killing your team. Baseball players spend more time on the DL than ever before, which probably says something about the times we live in. (It means you're weak.)
The amount of games lost due to injury has increased 26 percent since 2006. Why? Too many drugs. Not enough drugs. We're pushing young players too hard. We're coddling them like precious little snowflakes. Players are milking their guaranteed contracts. Teams will do anything to avoid paying performance bonuses. The DL is just a fancy way of saying "you suck."
There are a million causes and no solutions (other than teams pushing incentive-laden, target based contacts to protect themselves) and only one inevitable conclusion: The New York Mets are doomed.
