White Sox acquire RHP Trevor Richards from Phillies
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Trevor Richards throws to the Houston Astros in the seventh inning at Chase Field in Phoenix on July 23, 2025. The Chicago White Sox acquired journeyman right-hander Trevor Richards from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash considerations on Tuesday.
The White Sox transferred right-hander Drew Thorpe to the 60-day injured list to open up a 40-man roster spot for Richards.
Richards, 32, had a 2.08 ERA in 4 1/3 innings over two relief appearances with the Phillies this season. He also was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA over nine appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Richards is 24-28 with a 4.52 ERA in 297 career appearances (61 starts) with eight major leagues teams. Chicago will be his sixth team since the start of the 2024 campaign.
Chicago still needs to make a corresponding move to put Richards on the 26-man roster. The White Sox visit the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.
Thorpe, 25, is still recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in March 2025.
