The Chicago White Sox on Sunday signed left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander to a one-year, $760,000 deal.

To make room on the roster, the team moved left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster to the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Thursday) and left-handed pitcher Fraser Ellard to the 60-day list.

Alexander, a 30-year-old Chicago native, was designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers last week. He made 21 appearances (four starts) for the Brewers this season, going 3-5 with a 6.19 ERA. For his career, he is 20-33 in 164 games (56 starts).

Shuster, 26, has no decisions in 12 appearances (two starts) this season, with an 8.04 ERA. He is in his second season with the White Sox.

Ellard (lat strain) previously was on the 15-day list before his move to the 60-day. The 27-year-old is 0-2 this season, with a 6.75 ERA in seven appearances.
