Yes We Can ... Get Out Quicker Through This Exit. Obama's Big Night At Invesco
Although Barack Obama's acceptance speech on Thursday was impressive in many ways, I can't help but feel that political conventions officially jumped the shark when the Democrats booked Invesco Field for the final day of their big party. It can only get larger and sloppier from here. What's McCain going to do now; give his speech while dangling on a bungee cord from the Metrodome ceiling? How long before we start getting conventions with guys doing this? Listen; large outdoor stadiums were meant for football, soccer rioting and Celine Dion concerts, not politics. Please stop this trend now. That said, is there anyone out there who were among the 84,000 in attendance on Thursday? Please check in. I'd be interested in a first-hand opinion on how the evening compared with being at a sporting event. How much of a hassle was it getting out of there? Were there beer vendors? Foam No. 1 Obama fingers? Frisbee-catching dogs between Bon Jovi and Gore's speech? Were you allowed to get up to pee during God Bless America? It had to be surreal. My hope for 2012: Get the conventions back where they belong, in auditoriums with air conditioning and a variety of restaurants within walking distance. Take a lesson from The Beatles, who quit touring in the mid-1960s because they couldn't hear their own music over the din in sold-out stadiums. This inclusion thing is a nice concept, but as Jon Stewart said Thursday night, "Hope don't park your mother———- car." Mile High And A Mile Long [Denver Post] 84,000 Inside Invesco [Denver Post]
