A Stoppage-Time El Salvador Goal Brought An End To The Olympic Dreams Of U.S. Men's Soccer [UPDATE]
The United States will not field a men's soccer team at the London Olympics after this stoppage-time goal by El Salvador's Jaime Enrique Alas forced a 3-3 draw in the CONCACAF U-23 qualifying tournament.
The U.S. needed a win to make the semifinals after blowing this past weekend's match to Canada, and despite falling behind 2-1 by halftime managed to push in two second-half goals from Terrence Boyd and Joe Corona. It was a controversial ending after Boyd was bloodied by an El Salvador player, an act overlooked by the referee and one that drew jeers from the Nashville crowd. [Mun2]
Update (11:31 p.m.): By popular request, here's Terrence Boyd getting punched by the El Salvador player.
