Actually, Duke Had No Problems Getting Off The Court In Virginia Last Night
Virginia fans stormed the court in Charlottesville last night, after the unranked Cavaliers defeated No. 3 Duke, 73-68, and Mike Krzyzewski was a bit rankled by the lack of protection for his team. He reportedly "hollered an F-bomb at a fan" and later suggested that he and his team hadn't been properly shielded by Virginia personnel.
These are fair concerns, sure, but was the criticism warranted? Virginia officials told the that they'd explained their court rush protocol to Duke before the game, and in this video, it looks as though arena security actually form a human fence around the teams' benches to keep out the crowds. (That's Duke's bench in front of the camera.) The worst thing you see here, aside from a student or two sneaking through the security guards to join the throng, is the same as the worst thing you see at any Duke game: a hearty "YOU SUCK!" as the players head out of the arena.
