Mandatory Credit: Eric Canha-Imagn Images One day after their nine-game winning streak came to an end, the Boston Red Sox made an adjustment to their bullpen, selecting the contract of right-hander Seth Martinez from Triple-A Worcester.
In a corresponding move, the Red Sox optioned left-hander Raymond Burgos to Triple-A.
Martinez, 31, is set to make his debut with the Red Sox as well as his 2026 debut. He is 6-6 with a 4.00 ERA in 117 career relief appearances for the Houston Astros (2021-24) and Miami Marlins (2025). He is 3-2 with a 5.55 ERA in 33 appearances (nine starts) at Worcester this season.
Burgos, 27, made his Red Sox debut Friday and had a pair of three-inning relief appearances Friday and Saturday. He has just one other major league appearance, when he pitched one inning for the San Francisco Giants in 2024.
Boston had won 32 of its previous 37 games before a 7-3 loss to the Athletics on Saturday.
