Mandatory Credit: Jaylynn Nash-Imagn Images San Diego aggression didn't fully pay off as the Wave were saddled with a 0-0 draw with the North Carolina Courage on Saturday night in Cary, N.C.
The offenses were lacking finishing touches as the teams returned to action following a NWSL layoff since June.
San Diego unleashed 18 of the match's 24 shot attempts, but only three of those were on target. Casey Murphy made four saves for North Carolina.
The Wave (7-3-4, 25 points) have had back-to-back scoreless matches, albeit it more than a month apart. The team has had three matches when it has been blanked. San Diego goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan was credited with two saves.
The Wave's road unbeaten streak extended to five matches.
Murphy had a clutch save in the 74th minute on Gia Corley's attempt form the right side.
The Courage (5-5-4, 19 points) had a two-match win streak end with their first draw in a six-match stretch.
It was drastically different from a late-May meeting, when the Wave rolled to a 5-2 home romp.
