Mandatory Credit: Lucas Peltier-Imagn Images The host Las Vegas Aces successfully avenged a 30-point loss to the Dallas Wings 10 days ago with a turnaround performance, prevailing 99-84 in a near wire-to-wire effort on Tuesday in large part because of a game-high 32 points from A'ja Wilson.
Wilson made 12 of 21 attempts from the field and 8 of 11 from the free-throw line in addition to grabbing nine rebounds.
Las Vegas' Jackie Young chipped in 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Chelsea Gray posted 12 points and nine assists. The Aces (13-5) close out a 2-1 homestand before they head to Chicago to face the Sky on Sunday and then to New York for the Commissioner's Cup final against the Liberty on Tuesday.
Paige Bueckers logged 25 points on 11-of-19 shooting and handed out six assists for the Wings (11-7), who had won three of their previous four games.
Jessica Shepard amassed 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go with 14 rebounds. She added four assists for good measure. Aside from Bueckers and Shepard, however, every Dallas player was held below double figures.
The Aces wasted no time getting ahead, using an early 10-0 run to pull out to a 15-4 lead on a 3-pointer from Kierstan Bell. A busy first half for Wilson and Young helped the Aces stretch their lead to 17 points in the second quarter, but the Wings did spend much of the second half within single digits before the Aces pulled away throughout the fourth.
Wilson had 16 points by halftime, while Shepard topped Dallas with 13 points before the break.
Perhaps the most pivotal statistic was Dallas making just 2 of 21 attempts from 3-point range, while Las Vegas sank 8 of 18. Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale combined to go 0-for-8 from beyond the arc. Ogunbowale finished with four points on 1-of-10 shooting overall.
