McKinstry said Thursday in a post to X, formerly Twitter, that he cherishes his time with the Crimson Tide but is ready for the next step.
"I am so proud of what I have accomplished at the University of Alabama," McKinstry said, thanking coaches for "believing in me."
McKinstry, 21, was a top recruit in 2021 and replaced Patrick Surtain II (drafted ninth overall by the Broncos) in the starting lineup as a true freshman.
At 6-foot-1, 195, McKinstry has the size and range to be drafted in the first round. He's one of the top five cornerbacks in the class according to Field Level Media.
McKinstry, who has also returned punts and averaged 15.8 yards per return as a sophomore, had two career interceptions and 25 passes defended.
McKinstry's given name is Ga'Quincy. He was given the Kool-Aid nickname by his grandmother, he said his smile was as big as the "Kool-Aid Man," featured in advertisements for the children's drink.
