Allonzo Trier Declared Ineligible After Another Failed PED Test; Arizona Appeals
Photo Credit: Christian Petersen/ [object Object] Arizona guard Allonzo Trier has been declared ineligible by the NCAA following a second failed drug test, after he missed 19 games last season due to testing positive for PEDs in 2016. The university is appealing the decision.
A statement from the school says that Trier’s failed test came about last month and showed “the reappearance of a trace amount of a banned substance,” the same one that he says he unknowingly took back in 2016. Pat Forde at Yahoo reports that it’s the steroid Ostarine, which he claims to have accidentally ingested when his stepfather mixed it in a drink for him more than a year ago. His lawyer told Yahoo that the new test comes not from any new drug use, but instead from a residual bit of Ostarine in Trier’s system dating to the original accidental ingestion in 2016.
Arizona initially requested a medical exception from the NCAA to allow Trier—who is averaging 19.2 points per game—to continue playing, but it was rejected.
