American Mason Cox Is An Australian Rules Football Human Highlight Reel
Photo credit: [object Object] /Getty Images Former Oklahoma State basketball walk-on Mason Cox only made his Australian Football League debut a few weeks ago, but he’s already stunning audiences and broadcasters alike as the Texas native helped lead his Collingwood team to a 104-80 win over Geelong today in Melbourne with a pair of impressive goals.
Cox—who hadn’t even heard of the sport three years ago—scored his first after nabbing a mark while defended by Australia’s answer for Darrelle Revis:
(Good “Stifler and his mom” mention on the commentary at the end, there.)
The second, though, was even more impressive—and is getting attention across Australia today. Cox takes a mark late in the game, and finding no defenders around him elects to go for a running bounce—in Aussie rules, you can’t run more than 15 meters without “dribbling”—which is one of the sport’s most difficult skills to develop. Watching AFL noob Cox do it, then, en route to a goal that more-or-less sealed a Collingwood win, thrilled everybody:
