And Here's Another Hockey Player Who Allegedly Threatened His Wife
Nikolay Zherdev, most recently of the Flyers, is in a spot of trouble today back in Russia. According to a report from a Russian newspaper, first brought to our attention by Broad Street Hockey and Crossing Broad, Zherdev was out to breakfast with his wife and friends yesterday when things turned ugly.
At some point, Zherdev's wife Evgeniya stormed out of the restaurant and drove off in his Bentley (nice car, too). Witnesses say Zherdev ran after the car, catching up to it in traffic, and proceeded to beat the shit out of it with a metal pole, screaming abuse all the while.
Police have confirmed an investigation, and will decide about bringing charges soon. And then there's this curious line, mangled through the beauty of Google Translate:
In addition, the complaint is verified and the citizen about the death threats. However, according to the custody order, the grounds for bringing hockey to account for this charge is not enough as an athlete is allegedly no reason for wanting the death of half.
If you speak Russian, please clarify. But that sounds an awful lot to me like someone was complaining that the entire sport of hockey wants Nikolay Zherdev's wife dead.
