Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images The Los Angeles Angels selected the contract of outfielder Bryce Teodosio on Saturday. In a corresponding move, they released outfielder/first baseman Lamonte Wade Jr.
Teodosio was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2021, but he has quickly worked his way through the minor league ranks. In 2024, he recorded five home runs, 51 RBIs, 40 stolen bases and a .276 batting average in 114 games for Triple-A Salt Lake.
The outfielder made his MLB debut last season, appearing in five games for the Angels. He had 12 plate appearances but managed only one hit.
The 26-year-old has been limited to 25 minor league games this season but performed well. Overall, he posted one home run, 12 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and a .330/.385/.511 slash line.
Teodosio's speed makes him a real threat on the basepaths and in the outfield. In 2024, Baseball Savant ranked him in the 98th percentile in the MLB in sprint speed.
Wade was acquired from the San Francisco Giants on June 8 as a potential bounce-back candidate. The veteran recorded 17 home runs and 45 RBIs for the Giants in 2023.
However, he got off to a rough start in San Francisco this season with one home run, 15 RBIs and a .167 batting average across 50 games.
In Anaheim, Wade's performance did not improve. In 30 games, he produced one home run, three RBIs and .169 batting average.
The 31-year-old has not seen game action since July 26, despite fellow outfielders Jorge Soler and Mike Trout both missing games during that span.
The Angels will look for Teodosio to give them a defensive boost in the outfield. Jo Adell and Taylor Ward are locked in as everyday starters, but Trout has remained limited to the designated hitter spot.
Offensive-minded options like Soler and Wade have put pressure on Adell to cover more range in centerfield.
