As Punishment For Yelling "Fucking Jews!" At A Guy, Delmon Young Will Have To Complete Courses At The Museum Of Tolerance
Back in April, Tigers outfielder Delmon Young was charged with third-degree assault after a minor fracas on a road trip in New York. The alleged details were ugly: a supposedly drunk Young shoved a man to the ground after losing it—"Fucking Jews! Fucking Jews!"—at the sight of a yarmulke-wearing panhandler.
Today, those alleged details became real details: Young pleaded guilty to aggravated harassment in New York. His punishment, per the AP:
The 27-year-old left fielder, who became a free agent after the World Series, was ordered to complete 10 days of community service and enroll in a program at the Museum of Tolerance New York as part of the Manhattan District Attorney's office restorative justice program. [...] In the court-ordered program, Young will participate in interactive workshops, videos, guided discussions and special instruction by museum educators to explore issues of prejudice, diversity, and tolerance, the district attorney's office said.
The museum reports progress back to prosecutors. If Young completes the program successfully he'll be able to withdraw his plea and plead guilty to a lesser charge.
A free agent, you say? Fat, racist outfielders who can't hit or field generally don't draw a ton of interest. Maybe the Holocaust educators can teach him how to play baseball.
