Mandatory Credit: Lucas Peltier-Imagn Images Aston Martin has named Andy Cowell the team principal for its Formula 1 team, with Mike Krack moving into a new role after serving as the team principal since 2022.
Cowell adds to his job title after leaving his role as head of Mercedes' High Performance Powertrains to become Aston Martin's CEO last July.
Krack will transition to chief trackside officer while remaining with the team. Meanwhile, Enrico Cardile moves into the chief technical officer role, overseeing the architecture, design and build of the team's new cars.
Cowell was considered a key contributor to Mercedes' run of eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven world championships won by Lewis Hamilton. He will be joined at Aston Martin by former Red Bull design guru Adrian Newey in March.
"I have spent the last three months understanding and assessing our performance, and I've been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team," Cowell said in a statement.
"With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team, alongside our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are on a journey to becoming a Championship-winning team.
"These organizational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans that we have scheduled to make and I'm incredibly excited about the future."
Aston Martin finished fifth in the constructors standings in 2024 with 94 points. However, that was 374 points behind Mercedes in the fourth spot. Fernando Alonso was the team's top driver, finishing ninth with 70 points, while Lance Stroll struggled to just 24 points while finishing 13th.
