ATP roundup: Alex de Minaur cruises into London quarterfinals

Top-seeded Alex de Minaur of Australia committed just 11 unforced errors while cruising to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Canada's Denis Shapovalov in the second round on Wednesday at the HSBC Championships in London.

de Minaur needed just 63 minutes to win the match at the Queen's Club and land a quarterfinal spot. Shapovalov committed 29 unforced errors and also had nine double faults to negate a 7-0 edge in aces.

de Minaur next faces Brandon Nakashima, who posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Peru's Ignacio Buse. Nakashima had a 3-2 edge in aces.

No. 7 Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Jenson Brooksby. Great Britain's Arthur Fery beat France's Adrian Mannarino 7-6 (7), 6-4 to earn a shot at Cerundolo in a Friday quarterfinal.


Terra Wortmann Open

Frances Tiafoe converted 82.9% of his first-serve points (29 of 35) while registering a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Japan's Sho Shimabukuro during second-round play in Halle, Germany.

Tiafoe will face second-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals. Auger-Aliasssime smashed 22 aces and overcame a three-point deficit in the third-set tiebreaker to earn a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (5) victory over Learner Tien.

In other second-round action, No. 4 Daniil Medvedev of Russia recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Terence Atmane of France. Germany's Daniel Altmaier rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Hubert Hurkacz of Poland.

In first-round action, No. 3 Ben Shelton delivered a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Italy's Lorenzo Sonego. No. 5 Taylor Fritz also played his first match of the week and had a 16-15 edge in aces while outlasting Belgium's Zizou Bergs 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-4.
