Aurora Gaming battled past Team Spirit 3-2 to claim first prize at Fissure Universe: Episode 8 on Sunday.

Aurora took home $125,000, or half the total prize pool, by polishing off an undefeated week with their grand final that went the distance.

Team Spirit advanced to the grand final by beating Team Yandex 2-0 in the lower-bracket final earlier in the day. Spirit received a $60,000 consolation prize.

The $250,000 Dota 2 event began with eight teams playing in a double-elimination bracket. All matches were best-of-three until the best-of-five final on Sunday.

In the lower-bracket final, Team Spirit prevailed in 24 minutes on red and 56 minutes on green for the sweep. Marat "Mirele" Gazetdinov of Russia paced Spirit with an average kills-deaths-assists ratio of 8.0-1.5-11.5.

Then came their date with Aurora Gaming, which had previously advanced the grand final via the upper-bracket final.

Aurora took the opener in 30 minutes on green, but Spirit moved ahead by prevailing in 49 minutes on green and 41 minutes on red. Aurora forced a fifth map when they won in 50 minutes on red, and the momentum was on their side as they captured the championship point in 32 minutes on green.

Chung "Ws" Wei Shen of Malaysia was a particularly important player for Aurora, posting a 16-6-8 K-D-A on the fourth map and a 7-2-11 on the fifth. Artem "lorenof" Melnyk of Ukraine added an 8-0-17 ratio on the do-or-die fifth map.
