Australian Cricketer "Fighting For Life" After Taking Bouncer To Skull
Australian cricketer Phil Hughes is in critical condition today after being struck in the head by a bouncer during a match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The South Australia batsman was knocked unconscious and reportedly stopped breathing as doctors attempted to resuscitate him on the field. A medivac helicopter landed on the field, though Hughes would eventually be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He's currently in a medically-induced coma following surgery for a head injury.
A "bouncer" is a type of delivery in cricket that often results in the ball flying toward the batsman's head. It's heavily regulated due to its chances for injury.
