Mandatory Credit: Matt Krohn-Imagn Images Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon was bloodied by a puck to the face and needed to leave the game late in the second period against the Minnesota Wild on Monday night in Minneapolis.
Avalanche teammate Devon Toews tried to clear a puck out of the defensive zone and inadvertently fired the puck into MacKinnon's face. MacKinnon immediately went down and was attended to by trainers, who helped him cover his bloody mouth with a towel.
MacKinnon skated toward the locker room under his own power. He also had blood on the inside of his visor from the impact of the puck hitting his mouth.
The score was tied at 1-all when MacKinnon exited. MacKinnon had 127 points during the regular season and led the NHL with 53 goals scored.
