Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images Switzerland's Belinda Bencic pulled out of the French Open field on Friday due to a recurring arm injury.
"Just two days ago during a morning practice, I re-aggravated the arm injury that caused me to retire in Rome," the former World No. 4 posted on Instagram.
"The very good news is that with two weeks of complete rest, I will be able to recover and heal fully, so I will do everything I can in that period to speed up the process and therefore see you soon on the grass!
Bencic, 28, missed most of the 2024 season on maternity leave.
She returned this year to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open and capture her ninth WTA Tour singles title at the Abu Dhabi Open in February. Bencic retired in the first round of the Italian Open earlier this month after losing the first set to Greece's Maria Sakkari.
Bencic, the gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, had been slated to face No. 12 seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the first round at Roland Garros. Bencic will be replaced by a qualifier or a lucky loser when the season's second Grand Slam event begins Sunday.
