Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt (29) gets hype during warmups before the first quarter of the NFL Week 11 game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023. credits: Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK The Cincinnati Bengals placed cornerback and interceptions leader Cam Taylor-Britt (ankle) on injured reserve Monday, hours ahead of their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In a corresponding move, the Bengals signed quarterback A.J. McCarron to the active roster from the practice squad. McCarron is QB2 behind starter Jake Browning.
Taylor-Britt had already been ruled out for the game against the Jaguars after injuring his ankle during practice. He'll have to sit out at least four games, making him eligible to return for Week 17.
Taylor-Britt, 24, has 46 tackles and four interceptions — including one returned for a touchdown — in 10 games (all starts) this season. He has 101 tackles, four picks and two forced fumbles in 20 career games (19 starts) since being selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Bengals signed McCarron to the practice squad in September when Joe Burrow was still dealing with a calf injury.
McCarron, 33, was a fifth-round pick by Cincinnati in 2014 and was with the Bengals through 2017.
McCarron last played in an NFL game with the Houston Texans in 2020. Playing for the St. Louis BattleHawks, the former Alabama star led the XFL with 24 touchdown passes during the 2023 season.
McCarron is 2-2 as a starter in the NFL, throwing for 1,173 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions in 17 appearances with the Bengals (2015-17), then-Oakland Raiders (2018) and Texans (2019-20).
Burrow was lost for the season with a wrist injury in a Nov. 16 game against Baltimore.
