This will sound sacrilegious to fans of that other sport being played today, but there is more to life than football. Yeah, I said it, and it's true because there is also baseball. There is a full slate of MLB action on deck for the day, and we’ve got your best bets right here.

So, set your fantasy roster, bet against the Giants, and turn your attention to baseball—especially these three games.

Texas Rangers vs. New York Mets

The starting pitchers for both teams, while inexperienced, have been tough to hit. Nolan McLean (Mets) is 4-1 in five starts with a 1.42 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. Jacob Latz (Rangers) is 2-0 with six starts and 29 total appearances with a 2.91 ERA.

However, the Mets have been struggling hard lately, posting a .202 BA over the last week and scoring just 17 runs across seven games. Texas, on the other hand, has hit .241 over the last week.

Our Pick: UNDER 8 runs at -106

Here we have two teams going in opposite directions. The Mets have lost eight in a row; the Rangers have won six in a row. So, bet Texas, right? You could, and with plus-money odds, the Rangers have value. But they are not the best bet for the game. This will be a low-scoring game.

Houston Astros vs. Atlanta Braves

It appears that losing their lead in the AL West could be what the Astros needed to wake up from the doldrums. With a 6-2 win over the Braves yesterday, they’ve won two in a row and three of their last four. The Astros may have finally broken free of the slump they’ve been stuck in.

It’s been a rough season for the Braves, who are working on a four-game losing streak. Atlanta will send Joey Wentz to the mound to start the day. But Wentz got destroyed in his last few starts, allowing six, four, one, and six earned runs.

Our Pick: Houston ML at -142

Houston is the better team and should win this game. However, with how Valdez has fared over the last month, we could be in for a high-scoring game (making the OVER a great bet). But as bad as Wentz has been pitching, I like the Astros to build enough of a lead to take this home.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

New York will be going for the sweep today, but getting it might be wishful thinking. Boston will be sending Garrett Crochet (15-5, 2.57 ERA). In his last two outings vs. the Yankees, he pitched 15 1/3 innings, gave up nine hits and two runs, with 18 strikeouts and two walks.

New York is going with Will Warren. Warren has looked good in recent weeks, giving up two runs or less in six of his last starts. The one aberration? His Aug. 23 start vs. Boston (four innings, seven hits, and five earned runs).

Our Pick: Red Sox ML at -152

If Boston had been hitting a little better of late, I’d consider taking the run line to get a better price. But since Warren has actually had some good outings mixed with the not-so-good ones, and Boston’s bats have not been super productive, I’m going with the Red Sox ML.
