BetBoom advance to Birmingham One Grand Final
BetBoom Team swept Tundra Esports 2-0 on Saturday to advance to the Grand Final of the ESL One Birmingham event in England.
BetBoom will await the winner of Sunday's lower-bracket final between Tundra and Team Falcons, with the Grand Final set for 11 a.m. ET on Sunday.
BetBoom won the first map on red in 52 minutes, then took the second map on green in 37 minutes.
Russian Egor "Nightfall" Grigorenko led the way for BetBoom with 22 kills in the two matches, while fellow countryman Danil "gpk" Skutin had 17 kills and 41 assists in the win.
Saturday started with OG sweeping G2 x iG in a lower-bracket quarterfinal, winning in 35 and 55 minutes -- both times on green. In the semifinals, Team Falcons edged OG 2-1 bookending a 48-minute loss with a pair of 49-minute wins. The winner was on red for all three matches.
That allowed Team Falcons to advance to the lower-bracket final and draw the date with Tundra.
Twelve teams, including eight regional qualifiers, began the Dota 2 tournament, competing for a share of a $1 million prize pool and 26,640 ESL Pro Tour points. The group stage split the teams into two round-robin groups of six, where all series consisted of two games.
The top two teams from each group advanced to the upper bracket of the playoffs, the third- and fourth-place teams from each group moved into the lower bracket, and the other teams were eliminated. The double-elimination playoff bracket features best-of-three matches except for Sunday's grand final, which is best-of-five.
