It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at email@example.com. Today: The Green Bay Packers.
How's by you? Crymany cripes sake, the guldarn Packers are playin' like poop. Believe you me, if things don't get better we're pert-neer ready to give up the ghost, oh yah. Oh, and could youse borrow me a couple two-tree bucks? I need a beer and a brat, you betcha.
OK, now that you've learned how to talk like a cheesehead, (thanks to Cheesehead University for the primer) here's the next important thing you need to know to get by "up nort." It is of course the origin of the cheese hat. In 1987, Ralph Bruno made a wedge-shaped cheese hat from one of his mother's sofa cushions and wore it to a Milwaukee Brewers' game. It caught on, and the legend was born. Other minor legends such as Vince Lombardi, Bart Starr and Brett Favre have helped make this one of the most storied franchises in all of sports. They're not doing so hot this season, but Packers fans have hit bumps in the road before, and know that all will be OK as long as they don't spill the beer.
There are many great Packers blogs, so sorry if we left out your favorite. It was practically impossible to pick just three:
3. Nietzsche or Nitschke? Really good blogs give you stuff you won't see anywhere else, such as a report on how Packers fans are dumping tickets on eBay. Also, if you need a Packers leather helmet for the holidays, you're in luck.
2. Green N Gold. "Sometimes I say to myself, 'you know what, I'm just not going to watch the game today, they'll just break my heart again.' But then ... I end up feeling guilty and find myself in front of the TV. I really need to beat the shit out of that little voice.'"
1. Packer Palace. An amazing logo, a healthy rivalry with the Vikings and the Bears, and much more. The guy named Beer Kid has created a Disneyland for Packers fans. Check it out.
