The surgery was performed Wednesday at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., the team confirmed Thursday ahead of its season opener against the host Minnesota Wild.
"He'll begin his rehabilitation very soon and our hope is he can return before the end of the season," Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell said. "His loss will be felt by our club, but we have a strong leadership group in place and players will be given an opportunity to take on greater roles on and off the ice."
Jenner, 31, recorded 35 points (22 goals, 13 assists) in 58 games last season.
He is the franchise's all-time leader in games played (715) and ranks third in goals (192) and points (364).
Named the seventh captain franchise in history on Oct. 12, 2021, Jenner was selected by Columbus in the second round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
