Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images Expansion NWSL side BOS Nation named Domenec Guasch as the Boston club's first general manager on Thursday.
Guasch arrives from FC Barcelona, where he served as head of management of women's soccer, overseeing player contract negotiations and recruitment.
He was promoted to that position two years ago but was with the Spanish club for 13 years. His time with the club included work as the Barca Academy head of America.
He will start his new job in January, with BOS Nation set to begin NWSL play in 2026.
"It's an incredible honor to join this club and step into a city with such a rich tradition of sports excellence," Guasch said in a team statement. "The opportunity to build this team from the ground up is a challenge I fully embrace, and I'm eager to create a legacy that our fans and this city will celebrate for years to come. I'm excited to get to work assembling a world-class coaching staff and roster to compete at the highest level."
Guasch will be in charge of the club's sporting operations, including putting together the inaugural roster. Under terms of the NWSL's recently enacted collective bargaining agreement, the league will not hold an expansion draft, making building a team trickier.
The club has other issues to work out, as well. Multiple reports last month said BOS Nation officials are considering a rebrand before the team takes the pitch, with criticism hurled at the club over both the name and the marketing campaign.
It also still must work on the renovation of its planned venue, White Stadium in the Franklin Park section of the city, where community opposition has arisen.
