Brewers All-Star C William Contreras agrees to one-year deal

Milwaukee Brewers All-Star catcher William Contreras agreed to a one-year, $6.1 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration, according to MLB.com.
Contreras' deal includes a $12 million club option for 2026 or a $100,000 buyout.
Contreras requested $6.5 million and the Brewers countered at $5.6 million.
Contreras, 27, has spent two seasons with the Brewers and enjoyed his best season last year when he batted .281 with career highs of 23 homers, 92 RBIs and 99 runs. He made the National League All-Star team and finished fifth in MVP balloting.
He also was an All-Star for the Atlanta Braves in 2022. Contreras was traded to the Brewers following that season as part of a three-team trade that also included the Oakland Athletics.
Overall, he is batting .277 with 68 homers and 239 RBIs in 449 games over parts of five seasons with the Braves (2020-22) and Brewers.
