Mandatory Credit: Michael McLoone-Imagn Images Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski dialed up a 105.5 mph heater, the fastest ever recorded by a starting pitcher, to Cubs leadoff man Pete Crow-Armstrong in the first inning Friday night.
Misiorowski cleared his previous best pitch velocity of 104.5 mph on an 0-2 pitch to Crow-Armstrong, who fouled off the pitch tracking toward the inside half of the plate. He struck out to end the at-bat.
Misiorowski exited the game in the sixth after a quality start with eight strikeouts, four walks and one run on a fifth-inning homer by Seiya Suzuki. He tossed a 102.8 mph fastball on his 107th and final pitch of the game.
His first pitch of the game to Crow-Armstrong flashed 103 on the stadium gun and the second was 104.
Left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman is the only player to register a faster pitch since Statcast began tracking velocity in 2008. Chapman has thrown two pitches harder, touching 105.8 mph in 2010 and 105.7 mph in 2016.
Ben Joyce also threw a pitch 105.5 mph on Sept. 3, 2024.
Misiorowski leads the Major Leagues with a 1.45 ERA and 146 strikeouts.
