Brewers get early HRs, strong outing from Shane Drohan to top Rangers

Jackson Chourio and William Contreras each homered in the first inning and Shane Drohan tossed five solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the visiting Texas Rangers 5-3 on Saturday.

Drohan (7-5) allowed one run on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts for his first victory since July 31. Luis Lara had two hits and two RBIs for Milwaukee, which won its fourth straight.

The Rangers trailed 5-1 with one out in the eighth inning before pulling closer on Brandon Nimmo's two-run homer against Chad Patrick.

Antonio Senzatela replaced Patrick and allowed Ezequiel Duran's single before retiring the next two batters. Trevor Megill pitched a scoreless ninth for his 25th save.

Cody Freeman hit a solo homer and Nimmo had three hits for Texas, which lost its fourth straight.

Milwaukee claimed a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Cal Quantrill (6-5) on a pair of solo homers by Chourio and Contreras.

Chourio's one-out shot over the center field wall was his third homer in his last three games and his 20th of the season.

After Jake Bauers struck out, Contreras turned on Quantrill's 2-2 sinker for his 13th homer of the year.

The Brewers tacked on a run in the second inning. Christian Yelich hit a leadoff double, stole third, and scored on Lara's liner into center field. Lara was thrown out on the play while attempting to stretch the single into a double.

Texas got on the board when Freeman began the fifth inning with his first homer of the season.

Quantrill was replaced by Peyton Gray after allowing three runs on four hits with no walks and a season-high eight strikeouts over six innings. He retired the final 14 batters he faced.

Milwaukee extended its lead with two runs against Gray in the seventh. With the bases loaded and no outs, Lara singled in a run and another run scored on Cooper Pratt's sacrifice fly.

The Brewers loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth, but Jakob Junis struck out Lara to escape the jam.
