Broner On Win Over Malignaggi: "I Left With His Belt And His Girl"
Adrien Broner carried on his pre-fight shit-talking throughout the fight and into the post-fight interview after winning a split decision against Paulie Malignaggi in the Barclays Arena Saturday night.
Broner told his unwitting straight man, Jim Gray, that Malignaggi was shadowboxing all night and that "he couldn't hit me." On whether he was worried about any of the shots Malignaggi landed, he said he wasn't worried about anything because he came out with French Montana. To combat the perception he was choosing his own fights, he told his fans they could vote on his next opponent and, finally, he dropped the hammer about Malgnaggi's belt and girl. Gray asked if he regretted anything about the lead up to the fight and Broner was content with everything. "I'm good," he said. "I beat Paulie, I left with his belt and his girl."
Broner previously introduced Jessica Corazon, Malignaggi's ex-girlfriend, to the sideshow leading up to the fight and needed very little prompting to drop that bomb again after the fight.
Malignaggi—who, to hear him tell it, runs a harem in his spare time—obviously was hysterical and scolded Broner for bragging about taking his side piece. He would also later complain that Broner was awarded the decision because he was the more connected fighter.
Broner is now 27-0 with 22 knockouts.
