The Los Angeles Rams will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football this week. The Rams are one of the best teams in the NFL, entering this game with an 8-2 record. The Bucs have also found surprising success, owning a 6-4 record thus far.

Los Angeles boasts one of the better offenses in the NFL this season. They rank eighth in the league in points (.437) per game. They’re also averaging 27.2 points per game. Surprisingly, they’ve struggled to produce at home, though.

Tampa Bay’s been struggling defensively throughout the season. They’re giving up .412 points per play, which ranks 24th in the NFL. Overall, they’re allowing 25.0 points per game in 2025.

The key here is that the Bucs are going to force the Rams to play into their biggest strengths.

Tampa Bay runs a pass funnel defense. Teams are throwing the ball at the eighth-highest rate (60.3%) against them. They’re also giving up 7.1 yards per attempt, ranking near the bottom of the NFL in efficiency against the pass.

Although Los Angeles is comfortable establishing the run, they’re averaging 7.5 yards per pass attempt this season. They’ve consistently found success through the air, which isn’t surprising with Matthew Stafford and the dominant weapons they have.

The Bucs are also dealing with key injuries to their defense. Haason Reddick is an outstanding pass rusher, and he’s been ruled out. Arguably the most important injury is to Jamel Dean. He’s their best cornerback, and he’s already been ruled out this week.

Tampa Bay already wasn’t going to have the secondary to match up with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, and it’ll be even more difficult without their best coverage option. Benjamin Morrison is also questionable for this game, adding to the potential depth issue.

We just saw the Buffalo Bills dominate this Tampa Bay defense last week. They scored 44 points in that game, and it’s fair to argue that Los Angeles’ passing attack is drastically better than Buffalo's.

Even if the Bucs were fully healthy here, I’d favor this Rams passing game. Forcing the ball into Stafford’s hands with Nacua, Adams, and the tight ends is never a great idea, but that’s the type of defense this is. Adding in that Tampa Bay will be without some of its best defenders, the Los Angeles offense should have a massive edge in this game.
