Cal Raleigh homered from both sides of the plate Tuesday night, Julio Rodriguez had a home run among his four hits and Logan Gilbert pitched into the eighth inning as the visiting Seattle Mariners stopped the San Diego Padres 8-3.
Raleigh enjoyed the eighth two-homer game of his career, his second with long balls as a left-handed and right-handed hitter, as Seattle mustered up one of its better performances offensively lately. The Mariners scored just 25 runs during their just-concluded, 3-6 homestand but rapped out 13 hits, eight for extra bases, on Tuesday.
Gilbert (6-5) lasted 7 2/3 innings, yielding four hits and three runs with one walk and seven strikeouts. Gilbert, who threw 62 of his 87 pitches for strikes, was working on a shutout until Jake Cronenworth hit a solo homer in the seventh.
San Diego starter Adam Mazur (1-3) permitted seven hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings. The rookie right-hander issued two walks and struck out six as San Diego dropped its third straight game.
Mazur found trouble right away as control problems set up a first-inning run. After walking J.P. Crawford and hitting Mitch Garver with a pitch to start the game, Mazur allowed a one-out RBI single to Rodriguez.
The Mariners made it 2-0 in the second when Ty France laced a run-scoring double to the wall in right-center, scoring Jorge Polanco. Raleigh doubled the margin in the third, pulling a low and outside curve an estimated 379 feet over the right field wall with Rodriguez aboard.
Rodriguez upped the margin to 5-0 in the fifth with a solo homer, his ninth of the year, which traveled an estimated 411 feet into the second deck in left field. Raleigh cracked his 17th homer in the seventh after Rodriguez doubled.
Cronenworth's 13th homer and Kyle Higashioka's 11th in the eighth, a two-run shot that cashed in David Peralta's single, got the Padres within 7-3. Seattle added insurance in the ninth via a two-out RBI double from Victor Robles that scored Raleigh.
Cronenworth finished with two of San Diego's five hits.
