Caltech Beavers Beat The Odds
One of the first things we decided when we started this site a little more than a year ago, was that any time a college basketball team ended a losing streak of more than 200 games, they would get their own post. So here's to you, California Institute of Technology. Your 81-52 win over Bard College of New York on Saturday was your first victory over an NCAA foe since 1995. Hooray for the Beavers!
With a 1-207 record in their last 208 NCAA contests, the Beavers next hope to end an even longer losing streak, 245 consecutive defeats in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play going back almost 22 years. They haven't begun league play yet this season.
Yes, it's good that the Beavers still have something to shoot for ... wouldn't want them getting complacent. Our favorite part of this story, however, comes from the Caltech athletic web site, where we found this excerpt from their men's basketball season preview:
The blend of experienced players and capable newcomers encourages a guarded optimism as the Techers seek an NCAA Division III win for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
