Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images Jakob Chychrun scored the go-ahead goal at 16:04 of the third period Friday and the Washington Capitals rallied to defeat the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2.
Chychrun has scored in five straight games.
The Capitals scored three times in the third period, including Tom Wilson's goal into an empty net, to overcome a 2-0 deficit.
Connor McMichael and Wilson each had a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who have won three straight. Anthony Beauvillier scored the tying goal for Washington. Logan Thompson made 20 saves, none bigger than his stop in the final minute.
Morgan Rielly and Matthew Knies scored for the Maple Leafs, who have lost two of three to start a six-game road trip. Joseph Woll was again superb, stopping 30 shots.
Toronto was without William Nylander (illness).
Down by two in the second, the Capitals broke through at 13:18 of the second on McMichael's backhand from close range. It helped make up for McMichael's shot that clanked off the crossbar 49 seconds earlier.
Thompson kept the margin at one goal when he stopped John Tavares on a breakaway at 8:31 of the third period.
Washington tied the game at 13:16 of the third when Alex Ovechkin made a short pass to Beauvillier, who scored from the edge of the crease.
Chychrun scored on a laser from the right circle to give Washington the lead, and Wilson scored into the empty net at 19:58.
The Capitals put the puck in the net 21 seconds into the first period, but it came after the whistle so it was deemed no goal.
The Maple Leafs took the lead at 3:07 of the first on their first shot of the game, Rielly's flick from the left circle on a pass from Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who extended his points streak to eight games. Thompson's view was obstructed by two players tangling in front of the goal.
Toronto's Easton Cowan hit the post on a tip at 18:36 of the first.
Knies scored from the slot on a pass from Auston Matthews at 2:49 of the second period eight seconds after a Toronto penalty expired. Woll was kept busy with Washington holding the advantage in the flow of the game.
