Mandatory Credit: David Richard-Imagn Images The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Wednesday what can be construed as positive injury news on Darius Garland's left big toe.
The two-time All-Star guard is dealing with a contusion on the toe and will sit out Wednesday's game against the host Miami Heat.
He sustained only a bruise during the second quarter of Cleveland's 140-138 overtime loss to the Heat on Monday. Per the Cavaliers, Garland will receive daily treatment and will continue his "post-surgery management plan."
Garland, 25, averaged 13.0 points and 5.0 assists over his first three games (all starts) of the season after sitting out the team's initial seven contests as he ramped up for a return.
He was plagued with a sprained toe down the stretch last season. He only played in five of nine playoff games as the Cavaliers fell in five games to the Indiana Pacers in the second round.
Garland earned his second All-Star nod in 2024-25, averaging 20.6 points and 6.7 assists in 75 starts.
He is averaging 18.8 points and 6.7 assists in 385 career games (381 starts) with Cleveland, which selected him fifth overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.
